Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge at Deep Canyon Channel
Project Summary
City of Indian Wells (2016)
The City requested Inland Foundation Engineering, Inc. to provide
geotechnical engineering recommendations for slope reconstruction
and armoring with grouted rip rap. There was significant erosion of
the existing west slope of the Deep Canyon Channel between the
bicycle and pedestrian bridge and the Highway 111 bridge to the
north. The City of Indian Wells intends to repair the slope with
grouted rip rap.
IFE Role
Our exploration program consisted of two exploratory hand auger borings, drilled to depths of 10 feet below the existing ground surface (bgs). Laboratory testing of representative samples included unit weight, moisture content, sieve analysis, plasticity index, maximum density, and direct shear strength.
On the basis of our field exploration, laboratory testing and engineering analysis conclusions and recommendations were developed for slope stability, site clearing and grubbing, slope reconstruction, rip rap placement and construction, surface and subsurface drainage and general site grading.
